Family
Caleb was born and raised here in Puyallup, Washington. His parents, Mark and Meridee met while students at Pacific Lutheran University. Mark was the son of a carpenter from Ohio and Meridee the daughter of two musical school teachers from Portland, Oregon. Mark began his career as a teacher, and Meridee was a social worker before becoming a stay at home mom. As the family grew, Mark became a self-employed contractor in order to provide for his family.
Early Years
The third eldest of eight children who were all home educated, Caleb was always very independent and learned early on in life the value of responsibility and working hard to get what you want. At the age of 12 Caleb started a lawn care business working in the Rodesco and Crystal Ridge area. By passing out flyers and working hard, Caleb earned enough money to pay for trips to Washington DC and New York as well as a mission trip to Mexico and various other teenage activities. Mark and Meridee instilled in all of their children the importance of family, community, strong morals and hard work.
Caleb lived in Puyallup his whole life and played basketball, baseball and soccer through the Puyallup Recreation Center. When Caleb was sixteen he enrolled in Running Start, a program that allowed him to attend Pierce College in Puyallup. Through this program he completed High School and simultaneously received his Associates Degree with honors. In order to buy books and pay for other necessities Caleb often worked nearly full time in retail, lawn care, life guarding and construction.
Education & Professional
Caleb received his baccalaureate degree magna cum laude in Political Economics in the spring of 2007 from Hillsdale College in Michigan. While at Hillsdale College, Caleb was a champion member of the parliamentarian debate team, competing in tournaments in London, San Diego and other locations throughout the Midwest. During breaks in the school year, Caleb would return home and work building houses in order to pay for his education.
After Graduation Caleb went to Washington DC to work as a policy analyst for Americans for Prosperity Foundation, a non-partisan non profit grassroots organization dedicated to educating citizens on the importance of sound fiscal policy. While there he researched and wrote policy booklets on how to improve state government. He has participated in the Koch Associate Program, a management training program that focuses on applying principles of economics to the workplace.
Community Service
Caleb cares deeply about giving back to the community; he has been a youth sports coach through the YMCA of Puyallup, a youth leader and Sunday School teacher at City Gate church in Puyallup, an active member of a habitat for humanity project in Michigan, and a member of Best Buddies; which is a community outreach to developmentally disabled adults in Michigan.
